Lil Baby responds to collaboration request from Young Thug

Following his release from jail on October 30th, Young Thug made a surprise shoutout to one rapper suggesting a collaboration. Although many thought that the YSL founder would have chosen Gunna, a condition of his plea deal is that he cannot communicate with any of his co-defendants.

As such, Thugger reached out to one of the biggest rappers in Atlanta today, the legendary QC signee Lil Baby. On November 3rd, Young Thug posted his second tweet since being released from Fulton County jail and suggested a potential collaboration with Lil Baby.

Looking to find an artist who could help him create one of the biggest comeback hits of all time, Young Thug took to X, writing, “Wham, let’s drop one on these rats, Peter.” The post was directed at his Atlanta counterpart. However, he didn’t tag him publicly, but fans easily read between the lines.

Within 24 hours, the post received over 3million views, 88,000 likes and 15,000 retweets, which signalled an unfathomable amount of excitement among the hip-hop community. Lil Baby and Young Thug have collaborated on tracks before, such as the 2019 tracks, ‘Bad Bad Bad’ and ‘Never Hating’ but it seems listeners want something new.

That said, Lil Baby has answered Young Thug‘s collaboration request and did so when he posted a video soundtracked by his and Thug’s 2020 collaboration ‘We Should.’ Lil Baby was one of the first MCs to welcome Thug back to the game, writing, “I missed you mf!!!! Welcome home my brudda! Thank God you able to get back to your fam in good health and spirits! Wish ya none but billions jack! #whatwhamsaysgoes.”

Many assume that Young Thug chose Lil Baby as his first collaboration because he was on the rapper’s side after Gunna accepted a 2022 plea deal, which many assumed was a result of snitching. It was seen as an abandonment of his mentor and friend, and Lil Baby publicly denounced Gunna.

Droves of fans turned on the former YSL emcee for his decision, and shortly after his 2022 release, Lil Baby appeared to diss Gunna during a stop on his It’s Only Us Tour. During a set, when their hit ‘Drip Too Hard’ was played, the emcee screamed, “Fuck the rats, turn this shit off.”

When Lil Baby did this, Young Thug tweeted from behind bars, “Whateva wham say goes”, effectively siding with him. Gunna only entered an Alford plea, meaning he maintained his innocence but recognized that it was in his best interest to plead guilty to a single racketeering charge.

Still, the hip-hop star was angry and, in a statement, denied the rumours, writing, “While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way.”
