Kodak Black refuses to perform one song live
Kodak Black has confirmed that he will no longer be performing his track ‘Super Gremlin’ after getting sober (sort of). He took to Instagram live to talk about why he won’t be playing the track while also opening up about his issues with sobriety and how the track has impacted it.
In the track ‘Super Gremlin’, the rapper talks predominantly about drugs, but there is one line in particular that stands out to him: “I knew the Perc was fake but I still ate it / Cause I’m a gremlin.”
Talking at one of his gigs last month, Black spoke about the regret he has over writing that line, stating that swallowing a fake Percocet is potentially lethal. “It’s sad, though, bruh cause I’m like, ‘This shit gon park in the mind so quick’. I’m like, ‘Damn, I don’t wanna say this shit, but I know this bitch gonna do it, homie’.”
Black spoke about when he was most dependant on drugs and speculated what would have happened were he taking something fake. “When I was in my stage when I was taking Percs, I was torn,” he said, “I swear to God, I was taking about 100 Percs a day. Averaged about 40 [a day]. If I was fucking with that fake shit, I woulda been dead, homie.”
In defending his decision not to play the song live anymore, the rapper said, “Explaining myself now, I don’t want y’all to hear that and take that and think it’s okay to do that shit, you hear me? Hell no.”
Black has struggled with his drug habits for years but has confirmed in recent months he has managed to develop a healthier relationship with drugs. While he admits he still takes different substances, he doesn’t feel as though he depends on them as much. “I remember a point in my life when I was chewing a lot of Percs,” he said, “Bro, I’m proud of myself. I’ve never been this happy in my life, bro.”
He continued, “I ain’t even going to say I’m anti-Perc. Like, I never took a Perc since I been home. But bro, my dosage so low that I can’t believe it myself. Man, “I’m telling y’all, bro.”
