Kodak Black has aired his many grievances over being overlooked by the Grammys. However, he did mention that being pardoned by former US President, Donald Trump, is the only award he needs.
The Florida rapper shared his thoughts on the Grammys while hanging out in the studio with Akademiks and YouTuber Adin Ross. He said that he believes he should have “a million” Grammy Awards by now regarding the success he’s had in his career.
“Y’all know I’m supposed to have a million Grammys,” Kodak said. “Ok, but fuck the Grammy’s, fuck the awards ’cause sometimes your shit don’t always come as a trophy.”
He continued: “Look how real n-ggas gotta get their awards. I count the Trump pardon — that’s my Grammy, that’s my award then.” Notably, Kodak has been a prominent supporter of Donald Trump since he commuted his prison sentence in January 2021. In celebration, he had a custom Trump pendant made.
Kodak then proceeded to discuss his hit single ‘Super Gremlin’, receiving no nominations at the 2023 Grammys. Featuring on the album Back For Everything, it hit peaked at the third spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified platinum. However, it didn’t make it into the rap category at the awards.
The nominations for Best Rap Song went to Jack Harlow’s ‘Churchill Downs’, DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did’, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘The Heart Part 5’, Gunna’s ‘Pushin’ P’ and Future’s ‘Wait For U’. Meanwhile, the nods for Best Rap Performance are for DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did’, Doja Cat’s ‘Vegas’, Gunna’s ‘Pushin P’, GloRilla’s ‘F.N.F. (Let’s Go)’ and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘The Heart Part 5.’
“At first, I was sitting at this shit like, ‘Damn, homie. Y’all know ‘Super Gremlin’ was the hottest shit — still the hottest shit,” he said. “Even though a lot of them muthafuckas had good songs, why y’all still ain’t give me my shit, homie? What the fuck a n-gga supposed to do?”
