Kid Cudi says he’s “done” with Kanye West after fallout
Kid Cudi was once great friends with Kanye West, but they have cut ties over the years. Their falling out is no secret, and the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ artist stands by their distancing, claiming he’s “done” with Ye.
Cudi published his new book, Cudi: The Memoir, on August 12th and is gearing up to release his latest album, Free, on August 22nd. During a recent interview with CBS Mornings, he explained his issues with Kanye.
“It’s a sad thing, you know?” he said. “The freedom that we experienced when we were creating, it just will never happen again, you know? And that is the heartbreaking side of things. But hey, I had a lot of things in my life break my heart and I’ve been able to survive and move past it. I think he has [broken my heart] over and over, multiple times.”
He claims Ye broke “the code of a friendship” and that despite his attempts to repair their relationship, things didn’t go well.
“We’ve tried [to reconcile] since then, you know? But we always have a falling out,” Cudi admitted. “He said some things that there’s just no coming back from. The comments that he’s had about Virgil Abloh are just some of the most evil, vile, disturbing fucked up things I’ve ever heard.
“Every time he took a dig at Virgil, it just made me super angry. Virgil was an angel to everyone, there’s no coming back from that, man. Like, I’m done with you, and it breaks my heart, because I loved Kanye, you know?”
Cudi acknowledges Kanye’s impact on his life, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has become someone he no longer respects.
“I really loved him, he was a part of my life changing,” he said. “And at some point, he was a really good friend. But the man that he has become, I just don’t know that guy anymore. I don’t know him, I don’t know that version of him, and it’s really heartbreaking.”
