Kendrick Lamar writes heartfelt letter to a young fan that attended his show

During a recent show in Detroit, Kendrick Lamar shouted out a young fan who was in attendance that night and would later write him a heartfelt letter. The show had been taking place on Sunday, August 14th, at the Little Caesars Arena.

Footage has circulated online of the concert and shows Kendrick spotting the young fan in the crowd, who had been holding up a sign that read, “My name is Kendrick. This is my [first] concert. Can we take a pic?”

Kendrick then responded to the young lad by pointing him out and saying, “[Your parents] brung you to your first concert. Always respect and honour them. You will forever be great. You’re great right now. You can do whatever you wanna put your mind to, you know it? You understand that? Little Kendrick, do what you wanna do in life.”

Later on, after the show, Young Kendrick’s father shared a post on Instagram that showed a letter that Kendrick Lamar had written his son. The letter read, “Young Kendrick, thank you for coming. I’m glad we got to exchange energy. You are special. Continue to manifest the great energy you possess!!! See you next time!!! Luv!!!”

The act of kindness comes just a few weeks after a Kendrick Lamar show in Houston, at which a security guard was brought to tears when Kendrick performed his track, ‘Love’ from the DAMN album. Lamar responded to online clips of the security guard by saying, “at the end of the day, that’s how you want everyone to receive your music”.

The shows in Houston and Detroit have been part of Kendrick’s current The Big Steppers tour, supporting his latest studio album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. There are several US tour dates still to come before Kendrick embarks on the European and UK legs towards the end of the year.
