Kanye West postpones Marseille show: “It is my sole decision”
Kanye West has announced that he’s postponing his upcoming concert in Marseille.
Ye was set to perform in France on June 11th at the Orange Vélodrome in support of his new album, Bully.
However, the Chicago rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on April 14th to reveal that the planned show was no longer going ahead.
“After much thought and consideration, it is my sole decision to postpone my show in Marseille, France until further notice,” he wrote. “I know it takes time to understand the sincerity of my commitment to make amends. I take full responsibility for what’s mine but I don’t want to put my fans in the middle of it.”
He added, “My fans are everything to me. Looking forward to the next shows. See you at the top of the globe.”
The postponement comes shortly after interior minister, Laurent Nuñez, said that he was “highly determined” to ban the concert and was exploring “all possibilities.”
Mayor Benoît Payan previously condemned the concert in March, bringing up Kanye’s history of antisemitism.
“I refuse to let Marseille become a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism,” he said. “Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and of all Marseillais.”
His running mate, Fabienne Bendayan, added, “Someone who openly proclaims his admiration for Hitler and espouses Nazi ideas cannot set foot on the stage of a city whose very soul is woven from diversity, remembrance and brotherhood.”
Ye was banned from the UK earlier this month, causing his three headlining sets at London’s Wireless Festival to be cancelled. They were scheduled to take place on July 10th, July 11th and July 12th at Finsbury Park.
