Kanye West insists the industry is trying to replace him with Kendrick Lamar
Kanye West has made the claim that the music industry is trying to replace him with Kendrick Lamar.
West has had mixed feelings about Lamar, and many are unsure what his sentiment is toward the Compton rapper. Kanye has previously had a feud with Drake and rejoiced at how “energised” hip-hop was by Drizzy’s elimination of the Canadian last year. Furthermore, he then called Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show his “favourite show since the Michael Jackson era.”
Still, he has recently spoken down on Lamar. In his notorious interview with DJ Akademiks, West insisted that Drake is “a million times better” and “a million times more important” than Lamar and suggested that the industry is artificially placing Kendrick Lamar at the top of hip-hop. He has indicated that again.
In a rant on X (formerly Twitter), Kanye insisted that the music business has been trying to replace him with Kendrick Lamar. Although he is 100% sure that this is what is happening, many are looking at West now as the bitter and jealous old man of hip-hop who can’t move on.
West’s theory has arrived amid the alleged use of bots to boost the views of Kendrick and SZA’s new ‘luther’ music video. The ‘Flashing Lights’ rhymer feels that it is unsurprising and recalled how he once had the support of the industry, recalling, “Look man, when I was dropping Graduation, I had the whole building behind me too. That’s the way this profession is.”
He continued, “He got 24 Grammies. They are strategically trying to erase what I did and earned with n*ggas that won’t even be remembered 100 years from now. I’m by faaaarrr the most important artist of our lifetime. Everyone that works with the Super Bowl and Grammies can suck my d**k foreevvveeeerrr n*gga.”
The Chicago rapper’s opinions about Lamar seemingly fluctuate. At one point, Kanye West was praising Kendrick for taking down Drake in an anti-Drizzy rant. But recently, he suggested that Drake is an excellent musician, which makes it hard to decipher his true opinion.
