Kanye West reveals his current favourite rapper: “We need you to stay alive”
Kanye West has given a young artist his flowers, describing him as his “favourite rapper.” The G.O.O.D. Music boss took to X (formerly X) on March 9th to reveal that Dave Blunts is his number-one lyricist making music.
In a since-deleted post, he wrote, “Dave Blunts is my favourite rapper. His raps give me the energy of my tweets.” He also showed love to Playboi Carti, adding, “Carti my favourite musician.”
Ye shared a screenshot of a conversation between them in another post. “Bout to listen. Do you mind if I connect you and my trainer. We need you to stay alive,” he said, with Blunts replying, “Let’s do it. Thank you Ye.”
Taking to his own social media page, Blunts previewed a new song, in which he raps, “Ye said I’m the chosen one/ Ye told me to talk to his personal trainer ’cause he wanna see me alive.”
23-year-old Blunts went viral last year after videos circulated of him performing while using an oxygen tank, with people showing concerns for his health. The Davenport, Iowa rapper has suffered severe health problems, including heart failure, with his TikTok hit ‘The Cup’ glorifying codeine addiction.
As for Carti, Kanye previously executive produced 2020’s Whole Lotta Red album and featured on the song ‘Go2DaMoon’. During an interview with Kid Cudi, Carti called Ye “the OG” and credited him for being “on this king vamp shit.”
“Kanye is the OG,” he told Cudi during their conversation for Interview Magazine. “He opened my eyes to some shit. When I got around him, I realised why I love him so much. You get what I’m saying? When I get around you, I realise why I love you so much. I even appreciate Ye for introducing me and you.”
He added, “Being able to talk to somebody who understands what I’m saying, I got that from his whole camp. I felt that energy from everybody he deals with. I didn’t feel like a loner. The world I’m trying to build, he already got it going on. Ye is on this king vamp shit. Cudi is on this king vamp shit. Y’all already on that.”
Kanye’s comments about Blunts and Carti come after praising SZA, writing on X last month, “SZA IS TOP 5 ARTIST RIGHT NOW.”
