Kanye West concert cancelled in South Korea

Organisers have cancelled Kanye West‘s upcoming concert in South Korea, scheduled for later this month.

The cancellation comes after West released his antisemetic new single ‘Heil Hitler’ earlier this month, which celebrates Adolf Hitler. The song has been banned from all streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, but the official video has been viewed millions of times on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X.

Organisers confirmed in a statement: “Due to recent controversies surrounding artist Kanye, the ‘YE concert in South Korea’ scheduled for 31 May has regrettably been cancelled.”

While they didn’t specifically mention which controversy had led to the cancellation of the show at Incheon’s Munhak Stadium on May 31st, it is likely his latest single that they are referring to.

Additionally, those behind the show revealed they will no longer be selling West’s Yeezy merchandise, stating, ““Sales of Yeezy brand MD products will also be suspended starting at 1pm on 19 May.”

All tickets sold for the show will be refunded in full to ticket holders.

John Legend, who previously had a strong working relationship with West, discussed his thoughts on Kanye’s antisemitism in a recent interview with The Times, stating, “He had so much optimism, so much creativity. It does feel sad, sometimes shocking, to see where he is now.”

Reflecting on the Kanye that he used to know, Legend added, “I didn’t see a hint of what we’re seeing now, his obsessions with antisemitism, anti-blackness, and it is sad to see his devolution.”
