Kanye West blasts Adidas over Yeezy issues: “I’m not going to stand for this”
Kanye West parted ways with Adidas over his antisemitic comments in October 2022, with the company cutting ties after announcing it “does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech.” Despite going separate ways well over two years ago, the rapper still has issues with the corporation, which he has shared in a new rant.
Ye, who has just become active on social media again, took to Instagram on January 7th to call out Adidas for still being tied to his Yeezy brand through Google search results.
“When you google Yeezy.com the Adidas site comes before the Yeezy site Members at Adidas,” he began. “Stop doing this. Stop doing your moves to hold me back. Our partnership is done. You’re a 60 billion dollar company that froze my accounts. Now I’m back on my feet (no pun intended) and I’m not going to stand for this (no pun again).”
He continued, “I did phenomenal work for you guys and because I stood up for myself y’all tried to intimidate and oppress me. Everyone remembers I had major issues with Adidas because of design theft and oppression before ‘the tweet.'”
Ye went on to accuse designer Jerry Lorenzo, who recently signed a deal with Adidas through Fear of God, of stealing his work. “Side note y’all know Jerry was corny and disloyal for doing work with Adidas after the way they handled things,” he wrote. “I still showed up to his show that was a copy of my Hollywood bowl show being the so called bigger man but I’m never doing that again for no one.”
Kanye stated it was “Yeezy over everything” and bragged about how much money his brand made last year despite only being active for six months.
“The Yeezy.com site made 100 million dollars last year and that was with it only being up for 6 months,” he said. “I took the site down for 6 months to get control over my Shopify accounts. People wanted to make me believe that I couldn’t do this on my own. We sold over a million pairs of pods and I’ve been working on ten other styles for the past 2 years. It’s Yeezy for the people. Everything else was in the way.”
Yeezy was one of Adidas’ most successful collaborations. After cutting off Kanye, the company revealed it would make a net loss of £217 million in 2022, emphasising its condemnation of Ye’s actions.
