Judge rejects Tony Buzbee’s motion to dismiss Jay-Z lawsuit

A judge has denied Tony Buzbee after he attempted to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Jay-Z.

Buzbee represented a Jane Doe who sued Hov in December 2024. The rapper was accused of raping a woman with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in 2000, but the lawsuit was later voluntarily dismissed.

Jay then sued Buzbee, with the lawyer filing a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in June 2025. According to Complex, Judge Terry Moorer rejected him on March 31st.

Buzbee cited jurisdictional issues after Jay filed the case in Alabama, where Jane Doe resides. The attorney claimed it had no affiliation with the state and should have been filed in New York, where the incident allegedly occurred.

Instead of tossing the lawsuit, the judge moved the case to New York to be overseen in a different state.

Legal documents read, “In the interest of justice, by separate order, the case will be transferred to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The motions to dismiss filed by all defendants… and the motions to proceed using a pseudonym remain pending for resolution by the gaining court.”

During a recent interview, Jay-Z admitted that he went through a “hard” time following the allegations that left him “heartbroken” and feeling “uncontrollable anger.”

Hov stated that a settlement was never on the cards for him, claiming he would “die” if he chose to take that route.

“I can’t take a settlement – it ain’t in my DNA,” he said. “First of all, first I had to tell my wife. Let’s back up. I know the weight that this is going to bring on our family. I can’t do it. I would die if I settled – make that thing go away. And for me, it would’ve been cheaper? Yes. Cheaper, quicker, move on with your life. I knew what was coming. I wasn’t naive.”
