JPEGMAFIA takes multiple shots at Drake in new diss track

Although the heat between Kendrick Lamar and Drake seems to have temporarily taken a backseat, JPEGMAFIA has jumped aboard the fiery anti-Drake discourse with his latest release, I Lay Down My Life for You.

Although the rapper takes his ferocious lyricism in various directions on the album, the tracks ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot’ and ‘New Black History’ contain direct jabs at the Canadian rapper, delivering what some have considered a coining of the term “No Drizzy”.

On ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot’, the rapper aims at the recent allegations against Drake and his reported involvement with underage girls. JPEGMAFIA raps, “I can count all of my industry friends on my hands. And my […], they be in demand,” adding, “Obviously, rappers, they know what it is. If I show you a Drac’, I ain’t playin’ with kids.”

During ‘New Black History’, the rapper then makes good use of the “No Drizzy” line, a direct parallel to the “No Diddy” expression, which became popular on the internet in connection to P Diddy’s latest misconduct, and a subtle way to call out oddly unsettling behaviour.

In the song, JPEGMAFIA quips, “‘Specially when ya’ll cashing out for PDFs and rapers (No Drizzy).” He adds, “I hope ya’ll paid attention, no really, I’m dyin’. I killed myself, tell them to kill me (Hey).”

Although Lamar’s allegations towards Drake caused an internet frenzy, JPEGMAFIA has become the first to compare the rapper to Diddy in an overt and aggressive effort to up the ante in disgracing his reputation.

However, JPEGMAFIA’s dislike of Drake hasn’t come out of nowhere; he has been voicing his opposing position for a number of years, once describing his hatred of the rapper as linked to him being “big as fuck.” He told DJ Booth in 2019: “I been randomly dissing Drake for like five years, don’t know why. I guess, because [it’s] Drake. He’s so big that yeah I have been dissing him for five years, just because like he’s big as fuck.”

The rapper might have struggled to pinpoint the reason for his burgeoning hatred back in 2019, but on I Lay Down My Life for You, it’s clear that Lamar’s latest accusations have provided much-welcomed fodder for the fire.

While he has no qualms about leading the charge, he does recognise he comes second only to Lamar, as revealed on social media at the peak of the rappers’ feuding: “I’m no longer the biggest Drake hater,” JPEGMAFIA wrote. “Kendrick Unbelievable.”
