John Legend is “horrified” by Diddy allegations
Vocalist John Legend has recently spoken out about the various allegations made against Diddy. The pair collaborated on the 2023 song ‘Kim Porter’, which also featured Babyface, and Legend has insisted he is horrified by the accusations made against the rapper.
During an appearance on CNN to speak about his new podcast Afghan Star, host Christiane Amanpour asked him about Diddy’s sexual assault lawsuits, to which Legend responded, “I’m horrified by the allegations”.
He also stated that he was disturbed by “the video evidence that was released after that,” which sees the Bad Boy founder beating and assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Diddy (real name Sean Combs) apologised for the incident in question, claiming it was an isolated event.
Speaking about the video’s contents, Legend told Amanpour, “I was horrified by the descriptions that I read before the video evidence came out. [It’s] absolutely it’s something that needs to be brought to light when it happens.”
The 2016 hotel beating was first referenced in November last year when Ventura detailed it in her lawsuit. Cassie dated Diddy off and on from 2007 to 2018. Diddy denied the allegations before they reached a settlement. Following the emergence of the CCTV footage, he immediately apologised, stating, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was f—ed up. I hit rock bottom — but I make no excuses. My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video”.
When probed about Cassie’s initial lawsuit and allegations, Legend explained, “My default stance is to believe women when they make these accusations and to make sure that we do whatever we can to support women.”
He continued to insist that it is of the utmost importance to him that women are “heard and that any kind of accountability and reparations can be made to make these women whole again”.
Summing up the entire Diddy situation, Legend concluded, “It’s quite a shame. I really just want accountability and, hopefully, some healing for all of his victims”. Diddy has been named in eight civil lawsuits, including Ventura’s now-settled 2023 complaint.
Combs denies all allegations of wrongdoing.
