The heartfelt reason Jeezy gave Boosie Badazz’s mum $20k
Louisiana lyricist Boosie Badazz is an exciting artist and one of only a handful of commercially successful MCs from Baton Rouge. As the creator of Southern rap anthems like ‘Wipe Me Down’ and ‘Set It Off’, the musician has a lot of respect in the South. That said, midway through his 2023 50 Years of Hip-Hop concert in Los Angeles performance, the ‘No Juice’ rhymer unveiled that another Southern legend once gave his mum $20,000.
In 2023, hip-hop celebrated its 50th anniversary, and various celebrations took place across the US, which saw a long list of artists performing medleys of their greatest hits. During an event in Los Angeles, Boosie saw Atlanta emcee Jeezy in the audience and let fans know that the Trap Or Die creator helped him financially when he was in jail.
During the impromptu heartfelt moment, the Life After Death Row musician highlighted Jeezy’s presence and told the crowd, “Yeah! That’s my boy! He gave me $20,000 in jail. I’ll never forget it. He gave my mama $20,000 cash. Boy, that ni**a helped. I’m a Jeezy fan for life. I was in jail, and he gave my mama $20,000. All blues! I’ll never forget!”
In 2009, Boosie Badazz faced a slew of legal issues and, after fighting the courts, ended up pleading guilty to a third-offence marijuana possession charge. This would lead to a sentence of one year with a 2-5 year probation following his release.
However, his sentence was increased after he violated the post-plea terms put in place by the judge. In 2010, the ‘Undeniable Talent’ performer was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, three counts of possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and additional drug-related crimes.
Although he wasn’t found guilty of murder, he was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in 2011 but only served three years with parole, which saw an early release for him in 2014.
During a 2014 interview with DJ Skee on Dash Radio, the Louisiana native detailed how Jeezy showed unwavering loyalty to him during his legal troubles. Speaking about the Trap Or Die creator, Boosie disclosed, “Jeezy held me down the most. I used to holler at [Yo] Gotti, I’d holler at Webbie, but I had so much going on that the times I did holler, I’d holler. But I had to focus on my life and getting back to the free world.”
Boosie and Jeezy have collaborated before on tracks such as ‘Better Believe It’, ‘Mercy On My Soul’ and ‘Beez Like’. Furthermore, during an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast, Jeezy called Boosie “a real one!”
Concerning jail time for legal problems, Boosie is still trying to catch the attention of Donald Trump to give him a pardon as he still faces charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon in interstate commerce. He is also standing accused of knowingly possessing a firearm while dealing with abuse of a controlled substance.
Without a pardon, he could face a decade behind bars. So far, he has had no luck in catching Trump’s attention or that of his Vice President, JD Vance.
