Jay-Z rape accuser allowed to remain anonymous

Shawn ‘Jay-Z‘ Carter was recently accused of raping a 13-year-old with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in 2000 following the VMAs, which the ’99 Problems’ rapper immediately denied. Carter has bashed the unknown woman’s claims, along with her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, ever since the lawsuit was filed, but a judge has decided to allow the accuser to remain anonymous.

On December 26th, judge Analisa Torres ruled that the woman’s name can stay hidden for now but will revisit the decision later in the case. She claimed that the “highly sensitive and extremely personal” nature of the accusation “tips in favour of allowing Plaintiff to remain anonymous, at least for this stage of the litigation.”

According to documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the judge also targeted Carter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, stating that the “relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks [on Buzbee] is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client. The Court will not fast-track the judicial process merely because counsel demands it.”

Carter sued Buzbee for extortion and defamation and issued several statements denying the women’s accusations, calling them “heinous.” His legal team has filed motions with the court requesting that the case be dismissed and the accuser’s identity be made public, following the woman admitting that she made “some mistakes” in her story.

“It’s not just that this story is a lie and that it’s not true, it’s provably, demonstrably false. This never happened,” Spiro previously said in a statement, adding that he expects the lawsuit to be dismissed. “If it’s not, eventually this will all crumble, because it can’t possibly have happened mathematically.“

The lawsuit was initially filed in October but was refiled on December 8th to include Carter’s name. Combs, who is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, has also pled his innocence in the case.

Combs’ trial is set to begin on May 5th, 2025 after being denied bail three times, with the Bad Boy boss facing dozens of sexual misconduct allegations that have been filed against him throughout the year.
