Jay-Z praises new Clipse song: “A piece of classic material”

Jay-Z has given high praise to one of Clipse’s recent songs.

Pusha T and Malice reunited last year for Let God Sort Em Out, their first album since 2009’s Till the Casket Drops.

The intro song on the project, ‘The Birds Don’t Sing’, serves as a tribute to the brothers’ parents following their deaths. John Legend features on the track, which was ultimately nominated for ‘Best Rap Song’ at the Grammy Awards.

During a new interview with The New York Times, Hov gave ‘The Birds Don’t Sing’ its flowers as a masterclass in authenticity.

“If you’re trying to make young music and you’re not young, it’s gonna be inauthentic, and people can feel that,” he began. “You can smell it. So, the best thing anyone can do going through music is to tell their story and keep creating from that space.”

Jay spoke more specifically about the Clipse song and how much he’s enjoying their new era of music.

“I love what the Clipse are doing right now and how it’s authentic to them, and they’re telling a story about their mom and dad who just passed away, and how deep that is with John Legend singing on the chorus and everything that they’ve been through,” he said.

He added, “It’s an authentic display, a piece of classic material that could’ve come out in ’96 or 2026. It still feels the same because it’s real and authentic to who they are.”

Jay-Z almost appeared on Let God Sort Em Out, but decided against it. He told GQ, “I was close. I think the first thing that I say, it has to be said from me. I don’t want to be so rigid with it, though. I’m going to keep that open. I’m going to take that back. I don’t want to be so rigid.”

He added, “But at that moment, I was like, ‘Yeah, I want to do something.’ But in order for me to move forward, I got to get this shit out. I got to get it out.”
