Jay-Z’s ex-girlfriend reacts to rape claims with lyrics from Kanye West song
One of Shawn ‘Jay-Z‘ Carter’s ex-girlfriends has responded to the recent claims about him raping a 13-year-old girl. Carmen Bryan, who allegedly had a nine-year affair with Hov between 1995 and 2004, took to her Instagram Stories this week to subtly react to the news.
The 52-year-old shared a screenshot of lyrics from Carter’s verse on ‘Monster’, the hit Kanye West song from 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. Bryan simply highlighted rape lyrics from Carter without any further comment.
He raps on the song, “Murder, murder in black convertibles, I/ Kill a block, I murder the avenues, I/ Rape and pillage your village, women and children/ Everybody want to know what my Achilles heel is.”
In another post on her social media account, she wrote, “These days people don’t defend what is right, they defend who they like! And that’s why we call you ‘groupie.'”
Bryan previously worked as an assistant in the music industry and had an alleged affair with Carter, during which she claimed to have fallen pregnant but suffered a miscarriage. She also dated Carter’s former rival, Nas, with whom she shares a child, Destiny Jones, who was born in 1994. Her affair with Carter allegedly continued despite Bryan being engaged to Nas.
Carter rapped about having sex with Bryan on his Nas diss track ‘Super Ugly (I Got Myself a Gun)’ in 2001. “Me and the boy A.I. got more in common/ Than just balling and rhyming—get it? More in Carmen/ I came in your Bentley backseat/ Skeeted in your Jeep/ Left condoms on your baby-seat,” he raps on the record, referencing retired NBA star Allen Iverson, who reportedly dated Bryan in 1996.
Bryan released a book titled It’s No Secret: From Nas to Jay-Z, from Seduction to Scandal, a Hip-Hop Helen of Troy Tells All in 2006, telling the story of her career at Def Jam Recordings and Capitol Records, along with her relationships with the two rappers.
Carter was named in a lawsuit alongside Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on December 8th, with a woman claiming she was sexually assaulted at an after-party for the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. She claims Carter removed her clothes, held her down and raped her while Combs and an unnamed female celebrity watched. Then, she says Combs raped her as Carter and the woman watched.
Shortly after the filing, Carter denied the allegations in a statement, with Combs’ legal representatives also pleading his innocence.
