Jay-Z and Eminem to reunite on first song in 25 years
Jay-Z and Eminem are set to appear on a new song together for the first time in 25 years.
The pair have only ever collaborated once on ‘Renegade‘ from Jay’s 2001 album, The Blueprint, but they’re returning with another track.
Hov and Em are set to feature on a currently untitled song from Rakim, Kurupt, and Masta Killa’s upcoming collaborative album, which is set to arrive in August.
A&R and executive producer, Matthew ‘M80’ Markoff, took to Instagram on June 7th to post a photo of the album tracklist. The sixth track on the album is an interlude featuring none other than Jay-Z and Eminem, who will be paying homage to Rakim’s legacy and influence.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, M80 said, “Em and Jay do not have verses on the interlude. The entire album with all its parts were recorded in the past two years.”
Other features on the album include Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Buckshot, and Daz Dillinger. M80 serves as an executive producer alongside Oliver ‘Power’ Grant of Wu-Tang Clan, who passed away earlier this year.
Jay previously admitted that Em had a better verse than him on the Slim Shady-produced ‘Renegade’ in 2001.
“I think Eminem is very intelligent rapper,” he said. “It’s just, when you make 4000 songs… I’m a constant collaborator, you know, and some people gonna have better days. It’s just the way it is. But if we count the amount as the competitor and if we count the amount of records that I’ve been on versus people who had better performances, then it’s gonna be 400 to 3.”
Eminem served as the only guest appearance on the entire album.
