Jay-Z confirms he isn’t retired from rap just yet

It’s a headline that will have many of his fans saying, ‘Well act like it then,’ but it’s good news, nevertheless, that Jay-Z has confirmed that he is not retired from rap just yet.

There is life in the Blueprint boss yet, and in a rare interview, the hip hop icon confirmed that he hasn’t hung up the mic and will make some new music when the time is right.

Speaking with diminutive comedian Kevin Hart, Hov honestly declared: “Nah, I tried [retirement]. I’m terrible at that.” So that explains the lay-off, but when, exactly, will the elusive fellow be back?

“I just needed a break … I was really burnt out at that time. I was releasing an album every year,” he said while reflecting on the period when he stepped away from music after The Black Album in 2003. “I just looked up one day and I was like, ‘I’m tired.’ I’d never been on vacation until, say, 2000, my whole life.”

Now, he’s taking plenty of vacations, but it doesn’t mean he’s done. “I don’t know what happens next. I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired,” he confirmed.

Adding: “It’s a gift, and who am I to shut it off? It’s open to whatever. And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.” In other words, watch this space.
