Jamie Foxx responds to claims Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs caused his hospitalisation

In April 2023, Jamie Foxx was hospitalised, which kept him out of the public eye for a while and naturally led to a great deal of speculation from the public about why he was being kept in hospital.

The Oscar-winner was happy to keep the circumstances that led to his hospitalisation under wraps. Recently, during the taping of his upcoming Netflix special, Foxx has addressed whether or not it was Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who was responsible for putting him in hospital.

On September 16th, Combs was arrested and charged with sex trafficking and racketeering. He has remained in detention ever since and pleaded not guilty to all of the charges he is facing.

Foxx’s comments are quite speculative. Recently, the comedian filmed his upcoming Netflix special, What Had Happened Was, and during the show, he speaks about his hospitalisation. According to people who have attended the recordings (via The Daily Mail), Foxx claimed that Combs put him in the hospital. Foxx also states that he was the person who called the FBI and informed them about Combs.

While these updates are an interesting development, they must also be taken with a pinch of salt. Audience accounts of what Foxx actually says vary. Furthermore, Foxx is filming a comedy special, so even if he did say Combs put him in the hospital, it could have been a joke, which some audience members have misunderstood the tone of.

Additionally, a source close to Combs has told the Daily Mail that “there is no truth to Sean Combs putting Jamie Foxx in the hospital.”

Big Homie CC, a celebrity security guard, said in an interview last week that he believes Combs poisoned Foxx. “I know [Combs] poisoned Jamie Foxx, and Jamie Foxx reported him to the FBI because of it…” he said in an interview with Cam Capone News, “Jamie Foxx reported this man to the FBI because of this.”

When the actor and singer initially came out of the hospital, he said he didn’t know what had happened to him, but he provided some brief circumstances surrounding the hospitalisation. “April 11 last year, I had a bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil, I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything,” he said, “So, they told me I’m in Atlanta, my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. He said, ‘Nah’, gave me a cortisone shot. Next doctor said, ‘Something’s going on up there’. I won’t say it on camera.”

That’s all Foxx previously provided on his mystery illness. It may be that more light is shed on what happened when his Netflix special comes out, but until then, this is all speculation.

In March, during an appearance at the African American Film Critics Association’s Special Achievement Awards luncheon, Foxx revealed plans to share a first-hand perspective on his medical issues through his next stand-up comedy special, which is what he’s now filmed for Netflix.

“Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you what happened. But I’ve gotta do it in my way,” he said at the even. “I’m gonna do it in a funny way. We’re gonna be on the stage. We’re gonna get back to the stand-up sort of roots.”

At the time of his hospitalisation, there were various media reports that claimed the illness was extremely severe. However, his daughter, Corrine, dispelled these stories on Instagram, writing in May 2023: “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”.

As it stands, the only way to discover what exactly happened to Foxx is through his Netflix special and whether he truly alleges Combs was involved. No release date has been set by the streaming platform.

Meanwhile, last year, Foxx was accused of sexual misconduct. The alleged incident is claimed to have occurred in 2015 on the rooftop of New York restaurant Catch.

The lawsuit alleged that Foxx “put his fingers on and in Plaintiff’s vagina and anus.” Alongside the security guard, the woman also cited Birnbaum and the Catch employees as defendants, believing they enabled the assault.

According to the suit, the plaintiff “suffered and continues to suffer severe emotional distress and anxiety, humiliation, embarrassment, post-traumatic stress disorder and other physical and emotional damage.”

However, Foxx issued a statement denying any wrongdoing and claiming no such incident ever took place. A spokesperson for the star told The Independent: “The alleged incident never happened. In 2020, this individual filed a nearly identical lawsuit in Brooklyn. That case was dismissed shortly thereafter. The claims are no more viable today than they were then. We are confident they will be dismissed again. And once they are, Mr Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against this person and her attorneys for re-filing this frivolous action.”
