The rumour mill is in full motion as fans of Kendrick Lamar are convinced the rapper is about to surprise release a new album. In truth, the writing does seem to be on the wall.
The reason for such an outpouring of predictions is that several apparent leaks from the album arrived on the internet as snippets. Though many of them have now been cleaned up, that hasn’t stopped the rumours of a new album from circulating.
As well as song snippets like ‘Therapy Session 9’ doing the rounds, eagle-eyed fans also noted K.Dot’s Spotify profile picture had changed and that it was also the anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city — all of which suggests a new dro is forthcoming.
Of course, Kendrick is also set to perform at the Day N Vegas Fest next month as well as joining Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J Blige for a supreme Super Bowl half-time show on February 13th.
The usually reclusive rapper is putting himself out there and, looking at his track record, he only usually does so when he has a new record to share. K.Dot also showed up on Baby Keem’s debut album as well as revealing only a few months back that the next record would be his last with TDE.
“As I produce my final TDE album,” he wrote, “I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood.
“May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling. There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all. See you soon enough.”
Add all this to the fact he registered at least 32 song titles with ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and we have an airtight case for a new Kendrick Lamar album to arrive presently.
