Irv Gotti’s cause of death revealed by his brother
Murder Inc. founder Irv Gotti passed away on February 5th. His brother, Chris Lorenzo, has now revealed the hip-hop mogul’s cause of death.
During his appearance on the 2WAY podcast, Lorenzo stated that Gotti had died from a “massive hemorrhagic stroke.” He also claimed that his health issues were worsened by never going to see a doctor.
“He’s 54 – I believe he was diagnosed in his late 40s,” he said. “But Irv doesn’t go to the doctor, so that’s why he’s so late being diagnosed. And when he finally did go get a real physical and a check-up, they were like, ‘You’re diabetic,’ and he didn’t believe it.”
The episode was titled ‘Remembering Irv Gotti Lorenzo: Fighting Diabetes and Stroke Awareness,’ and saw him speaking alongside Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash and host Mark Halperin.
“When we talk about this topic, I watched him suffer the laast three years of his life – so it’s about quality of life,” Lorenzo said. “We all have to go at one point in time. We just really wanna go on our terms – and Irv, sadly enough, he did go on his terms.”
He added, “He just didn’t believe it and he was like, ‘I’m going to go the way I wanted.’ He ate a bunch of Chinese food while playing poker and had a massive hemorrhagic stroke, which is bleeding on the brain.”
In an Instagram post, Lorenzo said he wanted to use the podcast appearance to help people take care of themselves and their loved ones.
“I sat down with Dame Dash on 2WAY to have one of the realest discussions about life, health, and legacy,” he wrote. “This ain’t just another interview – this is about how we move forward, how we protect our families, and how we take care of ourselves. This one is special, and I want EVERYONE to tap in.”
Gotti’s family released a statement following his death, thanking fans for their “understanding and support” and asking for privacy while grieving.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo, on February 5th, 2025,” the statement read. “Surrounded by family and friends, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched.”
