Investigation launched into Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ jail due to safety concerns
Last week, it was alleged that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is struggling with the conditions at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC). The mogul’s attorneys have pleaded to have him released from the facility on more than one occasion. However, he has been forcefully denied bail.
That said, on October 28th, an “interagency operation” looking into the detention centre has been launched by New York authorities due to the facility’s high level of alleged violence and poor staffing. The MDC houses approximately 1,200, and whether it’s the wealthiest, most conniving criminals or the poorest, most violent people in the city, it is the only federal prison located in New York.
However, although many brushed off Combs’ appeals, he still receives visits from the psychiatric team daily to monitor his mental health, and this is not uncommon for inmates of the detention centre.
Recently, there has been a surge in violent attacks in the facility, and last month, nine inmates were charged in relation to in-prison attacks. Earlier this year, two inmates were stabbed to death, and one was left disabled after being knifed in the spine with a makeshift icepick. Furthermore, one correctional officer was charged for shooting a vehicle during an illegal high-speed chase.
These charges were merely only the tip of the iceberg of how dysfunctional and dangerous the facility is. It is currently home to Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the collapsed FTX cryptocurrency exchange.
On October 28th, the Bureau of Prisons issued a statement to the Associated Press ensuring that their operation was not an “active threat” to anybody and that it had been launched “in an effort to maintain the safety and security of all personnel inside the facility.”
The bureau said it wouldn’t provide additional details about what exactly investigators were doing there on Monday until the operation is complete. However, for a long time, inmates have complained about the rampant violence, inhumane conditions, severe staffing shortages and the widespread substance abuse that takes place inside.
Although an “interagency operation” into the MDC has been launched, it is still doubtful Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will be released as the prosecutors still consider him to be a flight risk.
News of the investigation comes after a recent episode of the hit podcast The Trial Of Diddy when the founder of Wall Street Prison Consultants, Larry Levine, revealed some previously unknown information about how Combs is allegedly finding life on the inside.
Levine confirmed that although he is not on suicide watch, Combs is receiving a visit from the psychiatric team on a daily basis to monitor his mental health. Detailing the arrangement Combs has, Levine divulged, “He’s not really on suicide watch, but my inside source there tells me that there is someone coming by to visit with him several times a day, you know, to make sure that he’s okay.”
He added: “He’s got somebody from the psychology department coming out to visit with him, so it’s like a game that they play with the inmates. Remember, he’s not playing chess. He’s in a cell by himself.”
