Ice-T’s three favourite musical co-stars
Ice-T’s career has been highly diverse. As one of the pioneers of gangsta rap following the release of ‘6 N The Mornin,’ the West Coast emcee paved the way for collectives such as N.W.A. and eventually Death Row Records.
Following his brief yet groundbreaking career as an emcee, Ice-T transitioned into television and moviemaking. From films such as Sonic Impact and The Heist to series such as Law & Order and LA Heat, the lyricist has appeared on TV screens worldwide.
Over the years, Ice-T has worked with several actors and had numerous A-list co-stars, including Carol Burnett, Robin Williams, Denzel Washington, and Chris Rock. However, he has also worked with fellow rappers on movie sets.
Many rappers have transitioned to acting over the years. From highly successful actors such as Ice Cube and Method Man to television producers such as 50 Cent and RZA, hip-hop has seen many of its prodigies enter Hollywood.
In an interview with Billboard magazine, Ice-T once revealed which MCs he had most enjoyed working with as an actor. You can see Ice-T’s favourites below.
Ice-T’s three favourite musical co-stars:
3. Big Boi – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, (2008)
In 2008, Outkast’s Big Boi appeared in the tenth season of Law & Order: SVU, playing the character ‘Gots Money’. Although he only appeared in one episode, Ice-T said he thoroughly enjoyed working with the Atlanta native.
“Big Boi from OutKast has been on the show. He had a pet tiger or some sh*t.” ‘Gots Money’ is a character who becomes a suspect in a homicide case. Ice-T’s recollection was correct, as the rapper’s charcater did have a pet tiger.
2. Ludacris – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, (2006)
Ludacris is another Atlanta lyricist who appeared in Law & Order: SVU. Luda played Darius Parker, a cousin of a lead character who had to appear in court after a dead body was uncovered in an alley near where Darius had a long night of drinking.
Speaking about the two series he appeared in 2006 and 2007, Ice-T told Billboard, “I had a good time with him,” adding, “He actually got to play through his own day in court; he defended himself, which was kind of cool.”
1. Snoop Dogg – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, (2019)
Snoop Dogg has appeared in a lot of movies and television shows, from Dolemite Is My Name to Training Day he is experienced in Holly. However, he also appeared in Law & Order: SVU, playing the role of “Banks”, a murder suspect and hip-hop artist who got caught in the crossfire of a diss war.
Recalling his time on set with Snoop Dogg, Ice-T told Billboard, “Snoop Dogg’s funny because I get a call from Snoop, and he’s like, ‘Yo, Cuz. I ain’t gonna lie. I ain’t never watched the show, but me and wifey started watching it and we watched that sh*t for, like, six hours, Cuz. That sh*t’s hard as a mothaf*cka, man.’”
