Ice Cube was angry with Pete Rock over one song

Pete Rock is a hip-hop veteran who has crafted many East Coast classics. As a producer and DJ, the New Yorker has become a highly respected figure in hip-hop. However, at one point in time, his involvement in the production of track caused Ice Cube to become extremely angry with him.

During an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast hosted by Noreaga and DJ EFN, Rock looked back on his experience producing the Ice Cube diss track ‘The Bitch In Yoo’ released by Common.

Opening up about the response from Ice Cube, Rock told the hosts, “Of course, Ice Cube was a little upset with me. That man had me feeling bad, man. He was angry, he was upset.’”

When he felt bad and guilty about the diss track he produced, Rock recounted Common telling him, “Aww Pete, come on—you’re good, bro, you’re good” in an attempt to make him feel better.

During an appearance on the 7pm in Brooklyn podcast last month, Common revealed that he had some concerns about his beef with Ice cube in the 1990s and thought it could have gotten “ugly”.

Speaking to the hosts Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero, Common revealed he wanted to prove he couldn’t be bullied, stating, “I’m a warrior too. I’m from the South Side of Chicago. At a certain point, if you come at me, I’m a defend myself and I’m a go at you. I’m a fight-to-kill, John Wick style.”

Revealing that he was happy it didn’t turn violent, the Chicago native continued, “Ultimately, I felt good that we kept it on wax. It was getting to that point with me and Cube, because they was looking at me like, ‘Oh, Common’s just the backpack dude.'”

After their exchange, Common and Ice Cube eventually settled their differences withe the help of Louis Farrakhan, who chaired a peace meeting attended by a slew of legends including Snoop Dogg, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Too $hort, Fat Joe and Chuck D.
