How Snoop Dogg goes out of his way to help broke rappers

Although he is not a billionaire, Snoop Dogg is a highly wealthy rapper who will be remembered for his contribution to hip-hop culture for many decades to come. From Doggystyle to R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta), the Long Beach lyricist featured in the charts for over 15 years.

That said, in addition to releasing music, Snoop Dogg has launched various exciting businesses. From rolling papers and weed strains to television and NFTs, the ‘Gin And Juice’ rhymer has become somewhat of a mogul.

However, many of the people who inspired him and helped him achieve success have not necessarily seen a lot of money themselves and, too often, have ended up in financial difficulty. Still, Snoop is not oblivious to any of this. During an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, the emcee revealed that he has made it one of his missions to give back to those in need and help the elders of hip-hop who paved the way for him.

While speaking about his charitable deeds, the Doggystyle creator insisted that it is important to look after your people, stating, “You’ve got to take care of your own; you’ve got to set an example.” However, the 52-year-old revealed that he doesn’t give money to less fortunate, older MCs for publicity but because he knows it’s right.

Explaining this, he told the hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, “We do it privately. I’ve done it many years with some of the artists that needed help, that needed physical and financial help. It’s not a public thing for me. I’m not going to say, ‘I helped him.’ But when they did that publicly, that’s what it’s supposed to be.”

The ‘Beautiful’ lyricist also urged the young millionaires in hip-hop today to do the same as it could have easily been them if not for luck, asserting, “Respect your elders because you making all this money — not that you have to — but if you love this rapper and respect this rapper, you see he’s down on his luck, he may need some money, but he has pride. He can’t even ask you ’cause he used to be you. [Only now] you have enough man in you to say, ‘Unc, I’m a throw you something.'”

Tha Doggfather even dropped Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ legend 50 Cent into the conversation, unveiling, “There’s been many times where me and 50 Cent together have called some of our OGs and put bags on him. And OG like, ‘Oh man, nah.’ We ain’t trying to hear that sh*t. We know you need it. Here, nigga.”

Snoop chose not to name any of the people he and Fifty have given money to, just explained that sometimes they do what they have to do, adding, “That’s what it gotta be! But that’s who we are, that’s who me and Fifty is. I can’t speak for everybody else, but if any O.G. that me and him respect — it’s happened a couple of times, that’s why I can bring his name up. I don’t have to say the person or the people.”
