Toronto rapper Drake is one of the most decorated artists in hip-hop. With four Grammy awards, 13 BET awards and a whopping 34 Billboard awards, the Young Money artist has broken all kinds of musical records. In fact, in the 2010s, Drake was awarded the accolade’ Billboard Artist of the Decade’, beating pop-music powerhouses such as Rihanna and Adele.

During the 2010s, Drake was unstoppable. With five Grammy awards, 14 BET awards, and a whopping 39 Billboard awards, the Young Money artist broke all kinds of musical records and was even awarded the ‘Billboard Artist of the Decade’ accolade. Across his 16-year career, Drake has released eight studio albums, three compilation albums, five extended plays, and seven mixtapes, and to this day, people still like his music.

The ‘Best I Ever Had’ lyricist has a massive discography and, unbeknownst to many, a hefty filmography. Before becoming a rapper, Drake was an actor. As an actor, he played Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi.

However, choosing to focus on music full-time, Drake released his mixtape Room for Improvement in 2006. He quickly followed up with Comeback Season in 2007 and So Far Gone in 2009. With so much buzz surrounding him, he got signed by Lil Wayne to Young Money.

Although Drake has made quite a fool of himself in recent years, the quality of his discography is impossible to deny. From Take Care to Scorpion, he not only matured and evolved with his music but also maintained his audience.

However, since the release of Scorpion, many would argue that Drake’s cultural capital and impact in hip-hop have both waned. The Toronto native has attempted to mimic styles used by the younger generation and has slowly but surely stopped collaborating with people his age in favour of younger, more relevant acts.

This has been noticed by a range of cultural commentators, including the likes of Charlamagne Tha God and Joe Budden. Furthermore, with Drizzy’s bizarre antics last year, critics have asserted he is in the middle of a midlife crisis. Others have highlighted what they see as a trend of diminishing creative returns.

Still, Drizzy’s loss to Kendrick Lamar and the defamation lawsuit he is pursuing against Universal Music Group have severely damaged his career and image. Still, Drake can point to the numbers even while being derided.

For the majority of his career, Drake has proved to be one of the most consistently popular hip-hop acts globally. The single, as of 2025, has been streamed approximately 3.4billion times, and even while Drizzy faces legal adversity, people continue to stream his music.
