How many kids does Future have?
Future is the Atlanta-born rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer that, after decades in the industry, is one of the best-selling musicians in hip-hop history.
He’s been awarded three Grammy Awards, with a further twelve nominations; he holds the achievement for becoming the first hip-hop artist to have three number one albums in the same less (within six months, no less); he is also the record holder for the most albums to have reached number one on the US Top Rap Albums chart. A cool, collected, sixteen in total.
But it’s not just chart hits and trophies Future has been building up. He is, as fans and celebrity gossip enthusiasts might know, also the father to seven children, each with different women.
His eldest child is a son called Jakobi, born in 2002 to Jessica Smith; seven years later, Jakobi was joined by Londyn, his child with India J. In 2013 came another son called Prince with Brittni Mealy, and a year later another son, Future Sahir, with singer Ciara, born in May 2014. Ciara and Future were engaged at this point, but she broke it off in August – three months after their baby was born – due to his infidelity.
Around a year later – the exact date is not known beyond the year 2015 – Future’s child Kash was born, with the infant’s mother never publicly confirmed. Hendrix was born in 2018 to Joie Chavis, a model and social media influencer who Future was in a relationship with; and a year later, Paris was born. Similar to Kash, little is known about Paris’s mother.
And the award-winning rapper isn’t done yet. In a 2022 interview with GQ, Future explained to Julia Fox that he was interested in having more children: but this time, with certain conditions.
“Yes, by my wife, if I ever get married, you know what I’m saying? I wanna have kids by my wife, of course,” he said. “It could be like three, cause I’ve never had more than one kid by a girl. I feel like it’ll be more special.”
Future has faced several lawsuits and legal disputes related to his children. Jessica Smith, the mother of his eldest child, sued him for child support, claiming their son suffered as a result of paternal neglect. Brittni Mealy, mother of Prince, apparently sued him for failing to make payments towards daycare and dental insurance, among other child-related costs.
Ciara has also taken Future to court. In 2016, Ciara – a Grammy Award winning musician in her own right – filed a fifteen-million-dollar defamation lawsuit against the rapper, in which she accused him of slander and libel over things he had said in both interviews and on social media.
In her complaint, she accused Future of questioning her mothering skills in public, with examples including his statements of her ‘control problems’, as well as even threats the rapper made towards her now-husband Russell Wilson. Future countersued, arguing that Ciara’s career had declined and she was merely seeking publicity. The defamation ended up being dropped, after a judge had ruled that she needed to provide more evidence that his comments had caused her financial harm. Future also dropped his countersuit, after a court granted him joint custody with his ex-fiancée over their child.
