How Lil Wayne spent his first paycheque

Many people remember their first job and the paycheck that subsequently came. However, Lil Wayne will never forget his first cash payout. It was an unfathomable amount and left him with a heap of money that he spent rather unwisely.

Lil Wayne was only 14 when he received his first check from Birdman, and shortly after collecting his money, the New Orleans emcee (real name Dwayne Carter) ecstatically ran to his mother, who helped him decide how to spend the money.

However, even with the oversight of his mother, Carter blew his first check on a purchase that seemed extravagant at the time but would be considered thrifty compared to what he spends today.

Lil Wayne was a high school student when he received his first check from Birdman and took a leap of faith when he decided to drop out of school to pursue a music career. This was when Carter was still a member of the Louisiana rap crew, the Hot Boyz.

Lil Wayne hadn’t worked a real job as he was too young to apply to any jobs in the area, but in an interview with ESPN, Carter revealed that it was huge turning point when he received a payout of $6,500 from Cash Money., stating, “So, you know, that was the moment I knew I could do a little something.”

Carter also stated that at the age of 14 in 1996, when he received that check, he decided to run to a dealership to buy a car. The emcee revealed at first, he gave it to his mom, disclosing, “She said, ‘I don’t want it. Whatever you want to do with it, let’s go’ so I went straight to Nissan and bought a Pathfinder.”

The Pathfinder cost approximately $9,150 in today’s money. However, that is a mere slither of what the Young Money mogul can afford now. These days, Lil Wayne’s tastes are a bit more expensive. He recently spent $2.7million Bugatti Veyron, one of the most expensive cars on the market.
