Hear a snippet of a brand new Kendrick Lamar song ‘Peter Pan’
Apart from a massive ‘Pop Out’ show and the iconic ‘Not Like Us’ video, Kendrick Lamar has been relatively quiet since bodying Drake in one of the fiercest battles in modern hip-hop history. But now, we have a first taste of new music on the horizon for K Dot.
Though there has been a lot of speculation around a new album for some time, giving the space between his last record Mr Morale & The Big Steppers and now, nothing concrete has emerged. Perhaps he was waylaid by his Drake beef or perhaps he has now moved up production to catch the wave that the feud has produced. Either way, it would seem that now we have something to go on.
Tanna Leone, former labelmate of Lamar’s on pgLang, has teased a brand new clip from Lamar that sees the two rappers collaborating on a fired-up track. With the working title of ‘Peter Pan, ‘ the tune has a pulsing beat, and some of Lamar’s typically flourished delivery is relegated to ad-libs.
Leone shared the snippet on Instagram with the caption: “When we doin the collab tape mane?” The performer also tagged producer Gardo Got Wings, suggesting that the snippet really is legit.
The two men have shared the mic in the past, too. Leone appeared on the title track from Lamar’s 2022 album, with ‘Mr morale’ even gaining a Grammy nomination for Leone.
The two men also share a lot of influences, with Tupac Shakur being their ultimate inspiration. Leone told Complex: “‘Pac for sure [and] DMX. My mom had a crazy CD collection. I was always the first one to get home, so the first thing I would do after I came in the door was go straight to the CDs. I would put on Tupac’s Greatest Hits.”
Whether ‘Peter Pan’ will end up on either Kendrick Lamar’s album or become a stand-out single for Leone, remains to be seen. However, with a taste of new music on the way, the clamour for a new album will grow to a fever pitch.
