Gunna and Polo G reveal new collaboration 'Waves'

American rappers Gunna and Polo G have released a new collaborative song, ‘Waves’.

The track comes courtesy of Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, who is assembling a number of artists for a new project called Culture Jam. ‘Waves’ is the second single released so far from the collaborative album, with the first being YoungBoy, Never Broke Again, and Rod Wave’s ‘Everything Different’.

“It just merges basketball and music together,” Leonard explains about Culture Jam. “It’s always been something on my mind that I wanted to do, so it’s just something that can uplift our community. A portion of each stream is gonna go to the Mamba & Mambacita Foundation.”

The Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, created in memory of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna after their deaths in a helicopter accident in January of last year, aims to “fund programs in underserved communities and further Kobe and Gianna’s legacies through youth sports and charitable actions,” according to the foundation’s website. Leonard has been vocal about Bryant’s mentorship and how it impacted his own game.

‘Waves’ is the first new music from Gunna since his collaborative single ‘Lemonade’ with Internet Money, Don Toliver, and Nav was released back in August 2020.

Meanwhile, Polo G is having himself a pretty great 2021. Hall of Fame, the Chicago rappers third album, debuted atop the Billboard 200 album chart, making it his first number one album in America. The album also reached number two in Canada and peaked at number three in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. ‘Rapstar’, the album’s third single, was Polo G’s first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. There are few mainstream rappers as big as Polo G is right now.
