GloRilla picks her hip-hop Mount Rushmore

During a recent appearance on the esteemed podcast Club Shay Shay hosted by Shannon Sharpe, Memphis emcee GloRilla spoke about her rise to fame and her plans moving forward. She even reflected on the music she listened to growing up.

GloRilla has been highly active on social media recently and has been speaking about the musical landscape a lot. The young ‘Tomorrow 2’ artist, as a Tennessee native, recently tweeted about her affinity for country music and, strangely, wrote about Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit, stating, “I woulda shot Jolene.” The song is about a woman who is insecure about someone more beautiful than her stealing her husband.

Concerning Dolly Parton, the icon recently took to social media to share her thoughts on Beyoncé’s new country-inspired album, Cowboy Carter, writing, “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album. So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album. Love, Dolly Parton.”

As well as commenting on the music of others, GloRilla (real name Gloria Woods) has been promoting her new mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang. The lyricist shared the rated-17 artwork on Instagram, letting fans know that it would arrive on April 5th.

Posting the cover, Woods wrote, “Getting ready for da Hot girl summer tour like [sunglasses emoji] @theestallion what we doing ??????? [three eyes emojis],” which prompted Megan Thee Stallion to reply, “lol what we doinggggg?”

Dropping by Club Shay Shay to promote the mixtape, GloRilla spoke about a range of topics and was asked by Shannon Sharpe to reveal the artists she would put on her hip-hop Mount Rushmore.

“I’m only 24 years old, so I can’t say any rappers that were before me because I don’t know their music. So, I’m gonna say Lil Wayne. I think Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers in the world…Chief Keef. Drake. Eminem. And Jay-Z.”

GloRilla’s five favourite rappers:

  • Lil Wayne
  • Chief Keef
  • Drake
  • Eminem
  • Jay-Z
