Wu-Tang Clan hero Ghostface Killah has announced that he will issue his forthcoming studio album exclusively through the innovative Stem Player.
In a new post on Instagram, the company behind the Stem Player announced that the Wu-Tang Clan member’s new solo project will be released exclusively using the innovative device and that a new song called ‘6 Minutes’ is available for free streaming on Stem’s website for a limited period.
“GHOSTFACE STEM. NEW GHOSTFACE KILLAH ALBUM EXCLUSIVELY LAUNCHING ON GHOSTFACE STEMPLAYER BLACK & CREAM NOW LIVE ON STEM.TECH,” the post reads. “GHOSTFACE KILLAH ‘6 MINUTES’ SONG IS ALSO AVAILABLE TO STREAM FOR FREE EXCLUSIVELY ON STEM.TECH FOR 36 HOURS.”
At present, Killah hasn’t spilt the beans on an album name, artwork or tracklist for his forthcoming album, but the LP is expected to be shipped with the new Stem Player next month.
The unique album will be available on two Ghostface Killah Stem Players: a cream edition with “five exclusive tracks” for $240 and a black edition with “10 exclusive tracks” for $360. Fans can also hear the new record by signing up for a $20 monthly subscription through Stem’s website, which also offers access to exclusive videos, concerts and meetups with Ghostface Killah.
The collaboration echoes Kanye West’s activity of February 2022, when he released Donda 2 exclusively via the Stem Player. West reportedly turned a $2 million profit before the album even dropped. However, the tech firm behind the Player, Kano, has since dropped Kanye following recent controversy.
In an interview with Fast Company, Killah discussed the tech collaboration as an opportunity to “cut through” the crowded streaming market. He also noted the intimate connection the Stem Player can allow him to have with fans.
“This is music for these people who care about me,” he said. “I’m not saying people don’t care about me, but when you’ve got dedicated Ghostface or Wu-Tang fans—these are hardcore fans for life.”
Ghostface explained how he’ll add each track to the player over time and that he plans to use the company’s new $1,000 Stem Projector to add a ‘Ghostface channel’ that fans can use to get exclusive content, such as Ask Me Anything’s (AMAs) and opportunities for in-person meetings. He also said he’s planning a music festival in collaboration with Kano.
“This is what I’m getting you. Every few months, take that!” He said. “It’s nothing for me to go in the studio and cook something up and just give it to [fans]. I don’t care about that. If you want it, you’re going to go get it.”
