Ghetts hit with new charges following alleged death by dangerous driving
Ghetts was charged with death by dangerous driving in October following an incident in London. Now, the rapper is facing further charges over the fatal hit-and-run.
The London MC was initially charged with serious injury by dangerous driving, which was quickly changed after the death of 20-year-old Yubin Tamang on October 20th.
According to Sky News, the 41-year-old (real name Justin Clarke-Samuel) is now facing two extra counts of dangerous driving, allegedly occurring before and after the October 18th incident.
Ghetts is accused of driving dangerously in Tavistock Place and other roads in Camden. He appeared at the Old Bailey from Pentonville Prison on November 24th.
Judge Nigel Lickley KC told the rapper, “I’m not going to ask you to enter your pleas today, but I will require you to enter your pleas on December 8th – that is the next hearing.”
While driving a BMW, Ghetts allegedly hit the student on Redbridge Lane in Ilford and failed to stop. Tamang later died in the hospital from his injuries.
Tamang was a student at the University of Roehampton and grew up in Nepal. According to the Metro, his father wrote on social media, “My little world, all I have left is tears in my hands.”
Born in Plaistow in the London Borough of Newham, Ghetts is one of the biggest names in UK rap. He reached his commercial peak in 2021 with the release of his Conflict of Interest album, which climbed as high as number two on the UK Albums Chart.
The project featured some of the biggest names in UK music, including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Skepta, Dave, Giggs, and others.
His follow-up album, On Purpose, with Purpose, also released on Warner Records, was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2024.
