Full-length trailer for Tupac Shakur docuseries ‘Dear Mama’ unveiled

FX have just unveiled the full-length trailer for their forthcoming 2Pac docuseries Dear Mama, which explores the rapper’s powerful connection with his mother, the activist Afeni Shakur.

In the two-minute clips, a 17-year-old Tupac Shakur discusses growing up with his mother and the impact of her activism with the Black Panthers.

“My mother taught me to analyze society and not be quiet,” the rapper explains. “If there’s something on my mind, speak it. Because – I gotta reiterate it – my mother was a Black Panther and she was very involved in the movement.”

The documentary will also feature footage of Afeni herself. “It was very difficult for me to be a mom,” she says in the clip, but I knew very well how to protect my children.”

Dear Mama is slated for release on April 21st. The first two episodes will be released concurrently, with the remaining three parts arriving over the next three Fridays. Check out the trailer above if you haven’t already.
