Fugees’ Pras facing strict conditions following prison release

Fugees rapper Pras was sentenced to 14 years behind bars last week after being found guilty of charges of conspiracy and illegal foreign lobbying.

The 53-year-old is set to surrender to authorities on January 27th after the judge sentenced him in Washington, D.C. on November 20th.

Following the sentence, which includes three years’ probation, more details have been revealed about his post-prison conditions.

According to AllHipHop, unsealed court documents show that he must immediately report to probation, hold a legal job, avoid contact with felons, submit to random drug testing, and comply with warrantless searches.

In addition, he’s also required to follow every directive from federal officers. He needs to pay a $1,000 special assessment and follow a financial plan to repay a $64,923,226.40 forfeiture judgment.

Pras was accused of orchestrating a foreign influence campaign to get the US to drop an investigation into fugitive Malaysian financier Jho Low.

He was found guilty of all 10 charges against him, including conspiracy to defraud the United States government and making foreign and conduit campaign contributions, one count of concealing material facts, and two counts of making a false entry in a record in connection with the conspiracy.

In a statement after he was sentenced, his spokesperson, Erica Dumas, said, “Pras has spent his career breaking barriers and defying expectations. While today marks a difficult moment, it is not the end of his story or his legacy. He is profoundly grateful for the continued support of those who believe in him as he prepares for what lies ahead.”

The rapper is best known as a member of the Fugees alongside Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, who released their classic album The Score in 1996.
