Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist share ‘Alfredo 2’ tracklist and release date
Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist are returning with a new album. On July 17th, the rapper-producer duo announced the release of Alfredo 2, the sequel to their 2020 project.
Alfredo 2 is scheduled for release on July 25th via ESGN and ALC Records. It will feature Anderson Paak, JID, and Larry June.
To coincide with the announcement, they’ve shared the first single, ‘1995‘, which kicks off the new album in the same way as their ‘1985’ track.
Gibbs raps in the first verse, “It’s the way God planned it, ho, you can’t stand it/ We don’t die, we multiply like rabbits/ Ran back like an addict/ Took the high road on n*ggas, I’m ridin’ overpasses/ Nothin’ in your catalog classic, you Shaqtin’ like Thanasis/ Godfather Kane, I turned these sons to bastards.”
The original Alfredo was released in May 2020 and features Rick Ross, Benny the Butcher, Tyler, the Creator, and Conway the Machine. It was nominated for ‘Best Rap Album’ at the 2021 Grammy Awards but lost to Nas’ King’s Disease.
During an interview with Complex, Gibbs explained that he feels at ease rapping over Alchemist beats and that Alfredo reflects that.
“When I go in with Al, I just feel comfortable,” he said. “I don’t feel like I got to stretch too much out of my zone. This album just represents freedom to me. It’s me being free on 10 tracks and just letting loose. Letting loose some personal shit, showing off the skill level. I try not to rap like nobody else. If there’s a Rap Hall of Fame, I’m just trying to get in that motherfucker.”
