Florida rapper shot and killed by police outside Davie McDonald’s
Florida rapper Off10 has reportedly been shot and killed by police officers.
27-year-old Napolian Powell lost his life at around 7pm on June 29th near the 6300 block of Stirling Road in the town of Davie.
According to CBS News, the rapper fled from deputies, refused commands to drop his weapon, and pointed a gun at officers.
Law enforcement reportedly attempted to arrest him at the Wawa petrol station on an outstanding warrant.
He allegedly fled the scene on foot before being tackled in a McDonald’s car park, but refused to be arrested with a gun in his possession. From there, officers say they ordered him to drop the weapon while undertaking a tactical retreat.
Sheriff Gregory Tony said, “Given a multitude of commands to let go of the firearm, the officers probably spent over a minute and 15 seconds, from my account of looking at the BWC, just trying to get the individual to let the firearm go.”
After the rapper allegedly pointed his gun at the officers, they opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.
Off10 is best known for his song ‘That’s My Luh Zap’, which has over 284,000 views on YouTube and another 152,000 streams on Spotify.
A man who witnessed the incident said, “They keep telling him to out his hands up, put his hands in the air, let me see your hands. I guess the guy didn’t reply, man. The next thing I know, I hear almost 30 shots.”
He continued, “I dropped my phone and ran. I got a little footage of it, but once I heard those gunshots, man, I went for cover.”
