Fat Joe addresses criticism for calling DaBaby 'the modern-day Tupac'

Fat Joe has explained himself after likening DaBaby to Tupac, calling the disgraced rapper his modern-day equivalent.

The rapper made the bold statement when he appeared as a guest on a one-off episode of the BET programme, Rap City, which initially ran from 1989 until 2008 on the network. When the host, Big Tigger, springs the question on Joe about which rapper he thinks is the most like Tupac, Joe named DaBaby, which upset some people.

DaBaby caused controversy this summer after delivering an abhorrent homophobic rant on-stage at Rolling Loud in Miami. His lack of an apology only angered people further.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of the deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he told the crowd.

Fans were frustrated with Joe for comparing DaBaby with the legendary talent. “Dababy not even the best baby of this era,” one Twitter user wrote. Meanwhile, another said, “I wish people would stop comparing rappers to Tupac. None of these dudes are like Tupac, certainly not DaBaby.”

Defending his selection, Joe tweeted, “No ones 2pac there’s only one but I was asked the question and da baby a super real one he lives what he raps about”.
