Exploring Drake and Meek Mill's beef

People might not even know that Drake and Meek Mill had beef to begin with, but it seems that in the rap world, there are always issues. Plus, Drake seems to be involved in a variety of drama-filled scandals basically every waking moment, so this is somewhat unsurprising.

Shortly after collaborating on ‘R.I.C.O.’ in 2015, the beef began between the two rappers. The origin of the bad blood was an accusation from Meek Mill that Drake used a ghostwriter on his feature for the song, which Drake denied.

Meek Mill took to Twitter to say, “Comparing drake to me too…. He don’t write his own raps! That’s why he ain’t tweet my album because we found out!” In another tweet, he continued, “He ain’t even write that verse on my album and if I woulda knew I woulda took it off my album….. I don’t trick my fans! Lol.”

Plenty of other celebrities and artists weighed in on social media, but nobody had too much to say regarding the validity of the claims Meek Mill put forth. The incident mostly just sent the internet into a buzz.

After the allegations, Drake followed up with a pair of diss tracks intended to get back at Meek Mill, titled ‘Charged Up’ and ‘Back to Back’. After this, Meek followed up with a diss track of his own, ‘Wanna Know’. Drake teased another diss track after this when he performed at OVO Fest, but he never officially released the song.

However, this beef was largely contained to 2015, as the pair put an end to their feud in 2019 when they took the stage together in Boston and collaborated on the song ‘Going Bad’. Meek Mill actually spoke of his mindset during the time of the drama after things were resolved, saying, “I was at a disadvantage. He was winning, in the eyes of the people. I still walked my way through that, went through prison, I had to go through something. Once I bounced back out, Championships.”

He continued, reflecting, “I’m going to stand on my talent, and I’m going to remain confident and hope that people pay attention to what’s going on because they got a long way to go. I’m trying to keep pushing.”

It seems that at least in this instance, some people really can put their differences aside to resolve their conflicts in a mature way and move forward.
