Every rapper Young Thug apologises to on ‘Man I Miss My Dogs’
Over the last few weeks, Young Thug has been dominating hip-hop news due to leaked phone calls surfacing from his time in prison.
The Atlanta rapper was arrested in 2022 and charged with racketeering conspiracy and street gang activity, as well as other charges, including drug and gun offences. Ultimately, he was released in October 2024 and sentenced to time served and 15 years of probation.
The calls have been particularly damaging to his reputation, with Thug being outspoken about many of his collaborators, including his ex-girlfriend. On a new track, he attempts to redeem himself with messages to those he has bad-mouthed.
‘Man I Miss My Dogs’ lasts for over seven minutes, and finds Young Thug dedicating each verse to a specific person. Below is a list of every rapper he addresses on the London on da Track and Juko-produced song as part of his apology tour.
Every rapper Young Thug apologises to on ‘Man I Miss My Dogs’:
Mariah The Scientist
In the first verse of the song, Thug offers an apology to his ex-girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist. One of the leaked calls revealed that he cheated on his partner and lied about it. Thug confessed to her that he messaged another woman days before he was locked up, rather than years before.
He raps, “Baby, I’m sorry/ One of my biggest fears is losin’ you to the internet/ Wakin’ up in our bed with you right by my neck/ Sayin’, ‘Don’t you break a sweat.'”
Drake
In the second verse, Drake is the target. In another leaked recording, Thug called out Drizzy for not doing more to get him out of prison, wanting him to speak to the US president about his freedom. However, in his latest lyrics, he shows his appreciation for Drake taking time out to see him when he was behind bars.
“Drizzy, you my brother/ You know I ain’t goin’ against you, I got manners,” he spits. “Everythin’ you did for the rap community, can’t ban you/ Never diss you, came to visit me at Cobb County like my kin do.”
Lil Baby
The next verse sees Thug addressing Lil Baby. In it, he reveals the ‘Drip Too Hard’ rapper is refusing to answer his calls. Thug has a long-time relationship with Baby and doesn’t want their bond to come to an end when he feels it isn’t warranted.
He rhymes, “Wham, pick up the phone, yeah, talk to me, it’s Spider/ Taught you everythin’ you know about this shit, we for lifers/ God told you in the Bible, the devil will knife you/ Rats already winnin’, don’t let this shit divide us.”
Future
Thug and Future go back a long way, going as far as releasing a collaborative mixtape, Super Slimey, in 2017. In the fourth verse, he discusses their brotherhood and how he misses doing life alongside him. The leaked calls found Thug calling him “lame,” “fake,” and an “idiot,” while also using a pejorative slur, but he has regrets.
“Man, I miss my dog/ Sittin’ down and havin’ talks with me, n*gga,” he raps. “Walkin’ me through this life shit, you deserve an apology/ Standin’ right beside you and you was right beside me.”
21 Savage
The fifth verse finds Thug addressing his relationship with 21 Savage. The YSL boss describes him as “real” and credits 21 for his support when others turned their backs on him. At a time when negative calls are surfacing, he wishes people could hear their conversations.
He spits, “Savage, you are a real n*gga, don’t let them tell you different/ You’ve been callin’ my phone ever since n*ggas went missin’/ I wish the internet could hear the calls, I’m so serious/ Like how I got you and Wham on the phone to settle differences.”
Gucci Mane
Last but not least, Thug takes a moment to speak on his former friendship with Gucci Mane. It’s been a while since they were on good terms, but Thug wants to assure Guwop that he isn’t the “rat” people are portraying him as.
“Man, I miss my dog/ 1017, this shit for life,” he rhymes. “Me and you against the world, we back to back plenty nights/ N*gga, you know you ain’t soft.”
