Eminem in trademark dispute with 'Real Housewives of Potomac' stars

Eminem has attempted to block The Real Housewives of Potomac from using the name “Reasonably Shady” for their podcast. According to Page Six, the US rapper has argued that the Slim Shady empire could be irreparably “damaged” were Real Housewives Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon to use the trademark for their show Reasonably Shady.

In the document – filed by Marshall Mathers on February 14th, 2023 – the musician argues that the name might “cause confusion in the minds of costumers” who know him by his ’90s moniker Slim Shady. The rapper is in a good position, as he owns the trademark for the term “Shady” for use on all merchandise.

Bryant and Dixon filed the trademark application intending to use “Reasonably Shady” on podcast merchandise such as lip gloss, water bottles, jumpers, hats, jackets and socks. The podcast is well-established, receiving five million downloads in less than two years. The two hosts are required to respond to the filing by March 26th.

In other Eminem news, Marshall Mathers’ younger brother has said that the rapper was “the best role model” when they were growing up. Nathan ‘Nate’ Mathers opened up about his upbringing in the Just A Little Shady podcast, which is hosted by Eminem’s daughter Haile Jade. Nate is 14 years younger than Marshall.

“Nate is my uncle – my dad’s younger brother – but also we kind of grew up together because Nate lived with us for a while when I was young,” Jade said during the episode (via HotNewHipHop). “I would say brother-uncle, you definitely act younger than your age. We are closer in age than you are to [my] dad, but still, I never realise how much older you are than me because I feel like you are like a brother.

After explaining that he could understand why, given Eminem’s lyrics, people speculate about their upbringing, Nate said: “He was the best role model I could have had to help me be the dad that I am today.”
