Eminem’s stalker convicted after illegally entering the rapper’s home
A long-time stalker of Eminem has been convicted of breaking and entering the rapper’s home for a second time, as well as harassment. The official charges levelled against the perpetrator, 32-year-old Matthew David Hughes, are first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking.
As reported by the Detroit Free Press, the 32-year-old appeared at a hearing, where Eminem testified about the incident. Official sentencing is scheduled for June 17th. This recent trial concerned an incident that took place last summer, after which Hughes was booked by law enforcement at Macomb County Jail.
Hughes previously appeared in court after another invasion last summer. During a preliminary hearing in December, a judge insisted that he have no contact with Eminem. However, Hughes could not post the $500,000 bond set by the judge, which meant he had to remain in jail through the trial.
The first incident that ever occurred between Em and Hughes happened in 2020. Following the event, the Encore creator told police he woke up to find Hughes standing behind him. And when asked why he was there, Hughes said he was there to kill him.
In his 2024 incident, he did not confront the rapper or speak to him. Still, after a 30-minute deliberation, a jury came back with a guilty verdict, which Macomb County Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski handed down.
For his 2020 act, Hughes accepted a plea deal and received four years of probation. However, as soon as his probation ended last year, the second break-in happened merely months later. Hughes has been arrested for other Eminem-related incidents before, such as sleeping in a guest house previously owned by Slim Shady. Eminem has not made any comment about the incidents.
