Eminem’s grandmother dies at 87

Eminem has lost his grandmother at the age of 87.

Betty died on March 10th at her home in Missouri from complications due to breast cancer.

Sources close to Em’s family informed TMZ that the rapper wasn’t with his grandma when she died.

Betty was the mother of Em’s mother, Debbie Nelson, who passed away in December 2024 of advanced lung cancer.

Eminem and Betty didn’t have the greatest relationship over the years. Speaking to The Mirror in 2000, Betty called out Em over his alleged treatment of her.

“Neither his mother, Debbie, nor I can figure out what happened to this sweet, caring youngster,” she said at the time. “In just over 12 years, he’s gone from telling me, ‘Grandma, I love you,’ to ‘Go to hell.’ It just breaks my heart.”

She continued, “I can’t believe this is my Marshall, the same boy who used to come and sit on my lap.”

When Betty made her comments, Eminem had just released The Marshall Mathers LP, containing graphic songs like ‘Kim’ and ‘Kill You’.

Em’s mother also died in Missouri, aged 69. In September 2024, it was revealed that she didn’t have long to live. “There are not many options [for Debbie],” a source said. “She is currently staying between the cancer centre and with family members. She has a very limited amount of time [left].”

The source addressed her relationship with Em, adding, “People around her aren’t even sure if Eminem is even aware of what is happening to his mother. He’s good to his mom. He makes sure he takes care of her, but they don’t really talk. It would be good for both of them [to communicate]. This could give them the chance to reconcile.”
