Eazy-E's mother gives moving speech at street naming ceremony

The legacy of Eazy-E has been honoured in his hometown with a street named after the legendary rapper. The city of Compton officially changed the name of Auto Drive South’s 100 block to Eazy Street on Wednesday (November 22nd).

The ceremony saw several of the NWA’s rapper’s friends and family members in attendance, and a handful of them spoke to the crowd, including Eazy’s mother, Kathie Wright.

Wright addressed those gathered, “I’m so proud of everybody that’s here today. I love you all, and thanks so much for showing up at this presentation. Thank you very much, the city of Compton.

She added, “I would like to thank everybody that had a part in this, and I love you. God bless, and he is watching from a distance. Thank you very much. Everybody have a nice day and have a Happy Thanksgiving.”

Flavor Flav made an Instagram comment and spoke highly of Wright, “Congratulations Easy E!! [sic] Your mother is so blessed to have had you. You are so blessed to have a mom like her.”

Eazy-E’s son, Eric Darnell Wright, also known as Lil Eazy-E, spoke about his father, saying, “My father finally got what he deserves, a monumental street in the city he put on the map. It’s a long time coming, but again, I always say it’s God’s timing.”

Eazy-E passed away, aged 31, on March 26th 1995, due to AIDS-induced pneumonia.
