Earl Sweatshirt on why Madlib is the perfect producer

Earl Sweatshirt has explained why Madlib is the perfect producer for rappers.

Madlib famously collaborated with MF Doom for their thrilling Madvillain supergroup and worked closely with Freddie Gibbs. More artists he’s produced for include Logic, Joey Badass, Loyle Carner, and he’s also responsible for the glorious beat in ‘No More Parties in LA’ by Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.

Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt recently appeared on Apple Music with Zane Lowe, and he spoke about what it takes to be a top producer. Earl firstly mentioned The Alchemist and said, “He cares a lot bro, he cares. And it’s like, whoa, there’s a lot going on … him and Madlib, bro.

“It’s like, ‘Oh this is not just a loop … you gotta think about the influences. With Al, even with Black [Noi$e], with Madlib, this is like the influences is going back to a certain place.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Earl also praised his former bandmate Tyler, The Creator, and noted, “With OF, our de facto leader Tyler, like behind production and stuff was setting the tone for everything. This is a guy from a different school. This is the school. This is Pharrell’s school.”

Recently, the Odd Future alumni returned after a long break in November with the single ‘2010’, which featured on his new album Sick! Over that fallow time between releases, Earl kept himself busy notching up features even if he didn’t release solo material. He appeared on Armand Hammer’s ‘Falling Out the Sky,’ ‘Nobles’ and ‘Loose Change’ by The Alchemist, Boldy James’ ‘Photographic Memories,’ and Wiki’s ‘All I Need’.
