Drill rapper arrested for attempted murder of NFL player
NFL player Kris Boyd was shot in New York City in November. Now, a Bronx drill rapper has been charged with the shooting.
20-year-old Tbo Zay (real name Frederick Green) was arrested in Buffalo on December 8th and charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The New York Post identified him as the rapper. In his song ‘Mission’, released alongside a music video earlier this year, Zay raps, “I get wavy/ I go in the Beemer and I got accurate aim,” and “Multiple scenes where my Glock got wavy.”
In another line, he references former NFL player Tom Brady. “I also shot like I’m Brady/ Throw shots and I’m waving a pistol,” he says.
Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, was shot outside Asian-fusion restaurant Sei-Less on West 38th Street at around 2am on November 16th.
According to the BBC, he suffered a gunshot to his lung that lodged in his pulmonary artery. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition before being discharged.
Police said Boyd had a confrontation with a group of strangers. At the time, he was with two fellow Jets players, linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles, as well as another friend.
Zay was also reportedly shot twice in the abdomen following a physical confrontation. Footage showed him running away and escaping in a getaway vehicle, driven by someone else.
Officers said that Zay was hiding at his girlfriend’s apartment when he was arrested. When they arrived at the scene, he was allegedly looking out of the window and looking for an escape route.
After a stand-off, he then exited the building with his hands up. Officers noted that his appearance had changed to seemingly avoid being found.
