Drake’s dad reacts to Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy wins for ‘Not Like Us’ diss track

Kendrick Lamar received an incredible amount of praise from the Recording Academy for his 2024 diss track ‘Not Like Us’, which recently won ‘Record of The Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. It also earned the West Coast act another three accolades in the categories of ‘Best Rap Performance’, ‘Best Rap Song’ and finally ‘Best Music Video.’

That said, the chart-topping diss track was recently addressed by Drake’s father, Dennis Graham, who rarely speaks about his son and the musical shenanigans related to his child. Well-known TikTok user Joy of Everything asked Graham about his opinion concerning the accolades Lamar has received, which was met with anger.

When asked about the Grammys, Graham stated, “I don’t care enough about that sh*t. Ain’t got nothing to with me. All the best to him, man. I don’t do that bullsh*t.” When asked what he thought of the award show overall, he simply responded, “Excellent.”

It appears that Graham doesn’t pay much attention to the hip-hop scene and, unsurprisingly, as a 70-year-old, doesn’t care to fight his son’s battles, whether that be with Kendrick Lamar or Universal Music Group. After receiving his most prestigious award for ‘Record of the Year’, he dedicated his win to Los Angeles and raised the tragic wildfires that swept across the neighbourhoods of Altadena and Pacific Palisades earlier this year.

Speaking about the city of Los Angeles and its suburbs, Lamar declared, “We gonna dedicate this one to the city. This is my neck of the woods that’s held me down since [I was] a young pup. Since I was in the studio scrapping to write the best raps and all that, you know, in order to do records like these.” After giving a shout-out to “all the people and all the families out in the Palisades and Altadena,” Lamar told the crowd, “This is a true testament that we gonna continue to restore this city.”

Lamar’s diss track prompted Drake to move ahead with an official defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group as the song attempts to paint the Toronto native as a paedophile. In one line, Lamar raps, “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young.” Then the West Coast native proceeds to mock his album Certified Lover Boy, rhyming, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified paedophiles.”

Still, ‘Not Like Us’ topped the charts last year and has seen Drake humiliated and ostracised. Even Universal Music Group, who he is suing, has insisted the ‘Hotline Bling’ rhymer’s claims are illogical, stating, “Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical.”

Drake has been fairly quiet about the Grammy Awards, which saw his arch-enemy win some of the most prestigious awards. So far, he has appeared on some streams with xQc and Adin Ross but has not participated in any meaningful way with the culture since his embarrassing loss to Lamar last year.
