Drake once clowned Joe Budden's 'Pump It Up'

Canadian rapper and singer Drake is one of the most well-known MCs in the world. The Grammy-award-winning artist has had multiple feuds while in the limelight, including with Kanye West and Pusha T. However, one of his less-known gripes is with former emcee, podcaster and cultural commentator Joe Budden.

Budden was a mainstay on the Complex YouTube series, ‘Everyday Struggle.’ He then became the host of the hip-hop YouTube news series’ State Of The Culture.’ However, as the host of his own podcast, The Joe Budden Show, Budden has expressed many controversial views concerning artists, especially Drake.

Drake has poked fun at Budden online for many years, and the podcaster hasn’t responded shyly. The pair have developed a passive-aggressive yet somewhat humorous relationship with each other, and last year, Drake took it upon himself to indirectly make fun of Joe Budden’s 2003 track ‘Pump It Up’.

The tension between the two rappers is believed to have started when Budden labelled Drake’s fourth album, Views, “uninspired” stating, he said: “That kid on that album that I heard sounds real f*ckin’ uninspired. That’s what I think. I think that that music is real good. You can’t fool a real n*gga. That music sounds good, and I enjoyed it 40; you sound amazing. 40 continues to progress. Drake, you do not.”

From here, the two have had a series of tit-for-tat exchanges. In a Snapchat post while in the studio with French Montana, Drake comically screamed, “Pump, pump it up”, a reference to Joe Budden’s track. However, last year while in the French city of Saint Tropez, a popular holiday destination for the wealthy, the Toronto native (real name Aubrey Graham) took to Instagram to share a video of people dancing to ‘Pump It Up’ at an all-white party, writing “@Joebudden in St Tropez”.

Graham can be heard “Joey they’re going so nuts to that ‘Pump It Up!'” Joe Budden is widely considered a one-hit-wonder as he never had another hit. You can view the post and Joe Budden’s response in the videos below.
