Drake makes hip-hop history with ‘It’s All A Blur’ tour

Drake recently broke a new hip-hop record with his ‘It’s All A Blur’ tour. Recent figures have confirmed that the tour has surpassed Kendrick Lamar and is now the highest-grossing hip-hop tour in history.

Genius shared the reports on Instagram, which said that the Toronto rapper had secured the milestone once he sold out all 80 shows on the North American tour dates. This is no small feat, given that the rapper played in huge arenas during this tour and still ensured there wasn’t a single empty seat left in the house.

According to the post, Drake’s tour with J Cole, which also had a number of special guests attached, including Travis Scott, Sexyy Red, and 21 Savage, ended up grossing around $320.5 million, equivalent to £238.8 million.

Of these 80 tour dates, Drake played at 39 different venues across North America. The report doesn’t only show the total sum of Drake’s tour but also includes a breakdown of ticket sales for each venue the rapper performed at. These showed that during his sell-out run of shows, Drake sold 1.3 million tickets.

With this achievement, Drake has overtaken Kendrick Lamar and his ‘Big Steppers’ tour, which previously held the record. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans, though, as last year, when only 30 of the 72 shows had been confirmed, Drake had already broken Lamar’s record.

This will undoubtedly come as a blow to Kendrick Lamar, as Drake’s tour took place following the two rappers’ ongoing beef.

Kendrick’s tour began in July, 2022, to celebrate his triumphant fifth album, Mr Morale & The Big Steppers. While the narrative-driven LP didn’t feature as many bangers as some of Lamar’s previous albums, the tour was a monumental success. It wrapped in September, 2024, after 73 shows around the world, grossing a total of $110.9 million (£82.7 million). This was achieved through selling 929,000 tickets.

The highest-grossing hip-hop tour isn’t the only record that Drake managed to break while performing on his ‘It’s All A Blur’ tour. Following his show in Washington DC, Drake became the first rapper to earn over $5 million as a result of a single performance. The back-to-back shows, which took place on July 28th and 29th, managed to draw in 34,303 attendees, and tickets sold for an average of $293.40.

Drake has also been steadily releasing new music. He recently shared his 100 gigabytes of data with fans, which included three brand-new tracks and lots of never-before-seen footage.
